A lot of people when describing love affairs tend to say, "I don't know how it happened" I'm just in love with him/her. Simply put, such individuals really have little or no idea of how it all got started. They connect such idea with feelings. Some say, "I have feelings for you". Consequently, based on such feelings they choose what to do next or what not to do.
Malachi 1:2 KJV
[2] "I have loved you, saith the Lord . Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the Lord : yet I loved Jacob"
It's interesting to see God's way of loving is quite unlike aforementioned human love. God says, "I have loved Jacob and have hated Esau". On the one hand, there was something wrong about Jacob yet God loved him, on the other hand, God had Esau as an option to be loved. There are two notions we can derive from this statement. First, this portrays love as an action, second, as something that one chooses to do. If love is an action and demands selection, then, how can one begin to love without involving his/her intellect and will. This contradicts random/falling in love which begins spontaneously without the consent of the one who is doing it, as seen in most of the love affairs. This tells you and I that Rational love ought to proceed from selection/choice not feelings/emotions. It's irrational to fall in love and then go on taking actions in choosing options to meet the needs for what it takes to fulfill it.
God always chooses to love, as in the cross, He first loved us and showed what is Rational Love.
Therefore, many a times our feelings say not to love certain individuals or hate them but for the sake of the cross we choose to love the one we actually wanna hate. Reason for calling it a rational love, however, is it's capacity for the involving will and intellect. Therefore, Rational love never fails, over against emotional or feeling-centred loves which comes and goes alongside moods and trends.
Stay blessed and loved !!!
